As you know I am a Weight Watcher. I was able to meet my goal this week by being back to my healthy weight range enabling me to maintain lifetime membership. I have learned to eat and feed my family what I thought was a pretty healthy diet.
Then along came the documentary Food Inc. If you have Netflicks-- it is on the watch instantly panel. I found it fascinating and disgusting at the same.
For example, I never really understood GMO (genetically modified organism) and why they were "bad". Take soybeans for example. 90% of the soybeans used are GMO's that are resistant to Round-up weed killer. So all this time I have been eating tofu and all other soy products I wonder how much chemical weed killer I've ingested-- worse yet fed my kids.
Worse yet, fast food. Eli loves to take Jacob to McDonald's for a hamburger. Who knew that they use meat filler treated with ammonia to kill the bacteria that they know the meat is often contaminated with. Crazy?!
So How am I changing? I think I am going to follow the Word of Wisdom (like I should) and use meat sparingly. Also plant a massive garden this year but actually tend to it instead of just sprinkling seeds and adding water.

If you liked that doucmentary, you should read Fast Food Nation. It has made me cut down on red meat although it should have made me cut down on fast food entirely - baby steps for me I guess. Also, I highly recommend the book Eat This Not That.
I keep wanting to check that movie out, now I must!
We just ordered all our seeds for our garden today, I can't wait for those fresh greens!
And you should know, McD's meat is a step above dog food.. and probably every other fast food large burger chain out there. Totally gross.
