I have enjoyed this blog over the past few months. I like how I am seeing old friends and their adventures in life. As I start this new adventure in motherhood I wanted to take a step back and recap some of the fond memories I have of my friends from Southern Utah. I moved to Washington Utah from Rigby, Idaho the night before 8th grade started. It was so hard to leave my friends in Idaho I cried and cried. During the 8 hour drive to our new home I rode with my brother Nathan who had recently received his drivers license at age 15 (lucky Idahoan teens), clutching a small fish tank with my Betta or Siamese Fighting fish inside. The first day of school was terrible. Middle school is an awkward time anyway, but I felt even more out of place because I was not tan, dressed in Doc Martens and Lucky jeans, or all made-up like the other girls. My mom picked me up from school in our big brown Astro van and I just bawled. I cried even more when I found out my fish boiled to death because I accidentally left him in the car while Nathan was at school. Although things got off to a terrible no good, very bad start-- they eventually got better. Now I am so thankful for the experiences I had in St. George and all the nice friends I made. I think I only cried one other time and it was in Mr. Lancaster's science class and Chris Jones was tugging on the hood of my coat, a brand new coat I borrowed from my mom, and ripped it. Other than that life was good.
For example:
There was Mindy B. who invited me for a 10+ day trip to Lake Powell on their family's house boat. It was so much fun. We jumped off the top of the boat, went hiking in the rock and found trilobites, feed ice cream to heaps of fish off the dock, and last but not least riding the banana. We also made up cool phrases like "rock water" that we so cool we hardly knew what they meant.
Then there was Chrissy C. who had such a fun house. I recall a big bucket of tootsie rolls that we would unwrap and make big brown tootsie balls, rolls them around and eat them. YUM. "Christhpy" was always so funny. I was a little scared though because one night I spent the night and in the room we slept in there was this gargoyle like statue that stared at me all night when I was trying to sleep. We also had seminary together and our teacher would sing a song called, "Short people have no reason to live". I entirely disagree.
Crystal F. was always the pretty girl who all the boys wanted to date. I recently had dinner at my brother's houses with one of her "ex's" and he still was talking about her. We had Spanish class together with Mrs. Conclaves who would force us to close our eyes and meditate on Spanish. I would just think about the corn or avocado ice cream the teacher always promised to make us.
Emma B. was the athlete. I ran track one year because of Emma (Crystal too). I never saw her because she was with the good kids and I was with the much slower crowd. It did force me to get in shape. We also had English class together with Mr. Ostler? and would roll our eyes and how disorganized things were and the task of reading Dracula.
Brandi W. was my saving grace. I don't even remember how she and I became friends but
she introduced me to the world of makeup, shopping, and girl stuff. I still wear Lo'real Feel Naturale pressed powder (which was recently discontinued so if anyone has suggestions...) that Brandi suggested.
These are just a few examples. There are so many more people I could mention.
It is so fun to re reacquainted with some my friends. The internet is amazing how it keeps us in touch. It is so cool to think how everyone changes, grows up, get married, and has beautiful families. So keep blogging. I'm reading.

You're so funny Janel!! Who in the world was this ex? And what did he say? I'm afraid to know...
Remember when you did my makeup for Senior Ball? Obviously you knew SOMETHING about makeup. I still don't know a thing about it.
Christhpy!!! I love it!!!
That was a great walk down memory lane! Loved it!
My beloved Betta, Dalbert Agustus died shortly after we got married and I cried to. I can relate.
As for Ostlers class, what a weirdo. Everything was an after thought with him & I remember us (Crystal, you, me & Andrea) always rolling our eyes and making fun of him. :)
As for me being with the good kids, I don't remember it being so much like that but I do remember a bunch of us in track together, that was fun!
Remember on picture day our sophomore year we were doing our make-up & you taught us how to properly curl our eye lashes with a knife. I still remember that & when I feel like going the extra mile I pull out that ol’ trick!
I can't believe it was so long ago, seems like yesterday. Those were some good times!
Janel you are so sweet! I don't remember knowing all the tricks of make-up, but thanks for thinking I do! I have the best memories of you, too. I should mail you a copy of a dorky paper I wrote in 11th grade about my friend Janel, it encompasses our whole friendship, from when we met to moving right after EFY.
You are the greatest!
PS I am loving tinted moisturizer (I just use cover girl) and loose power, I believe mine's Loreal. I also love anything Lamcome--at a dept. store makeup counter. They have fab. foundations, and you can ask for a sample, and they will find your color for you. My sample has lasted me over 2 months! I also love their defincils mascara.
I meant Lancome-- whoops!
Mr. Ostler's class was such a joke! And I still totally do that knife trick to curl my eyelashes.
I remember you auditioned for a play our sophomore year. I don't remember if you got the part, but I so admired you for trying out. I loved how you went and did it bc it was something you wanted to do, and didn't need other people to do it with you. I didn't figured that one out until my 20's.
I miss you Janel!!
Oh yeah Lake Powell, those Were some GOOD TIMES!! yay!!
You were always such a cute fun friend!! :)
You said it lucky jeans and birkenstocks! Oh sooo cool.
Crystal....I always think of you and your butter knife to curl your lashes! laugh....
Janel- You are so cute! I'm so glad you have a blog now! That was fun to read about the good ol' days! :) It makes me miss being young with no responsibility!! Hahah...I totally forgot about Cristhpy!!! That was AWESOME!!! ;)
You know who the ex was--- one word-- Polo. my bro nate found him on myspace. he and his wife came over to nate and corinne's house for dinner. They were expecting and she was a month or so ahead of me so they probably have a baby now. He had big poofy hair and wore a beanie in the summer heat-- kinda funny.
That's funny Janel. Do you all live near each other? They had their baby--he emailed me (and a bunch of other peeps) some pics.
