It is true. Not in the World of Warcraft/Dungeons and Dragons sense. I like to play actual games with actual people face to face. I like social interaction. We are going to my parents house in Colorado for 3 weeks over Christmas and I am looking forward to our nightly game playing the most. Some of our favorites are:
- Hand and Foot - only we play with partners and that when you pick up the draw pile you only take the top 7 cards, not the whole pile.
- Fill or Bust - not to be confused with the mom and dad game-- Feel her bust.
- Speed Scrabble- I love Scrabble, but it moves way too slow. In this version each player starts with 5 tiles face down, the remaining tiles are placed face down in the center. One person says go and everyone tries to arrange their tiles into connected words. Once someone has made all their tiles into connected word they say, "take two" and each player takes two tiles and tries to arrange into words. Once someone has all tiles connected into words they say "take two". Play continues until all the tiles in the center are used and person able to use all their tiles wins. No board is used. The only score keeping is the person who wins the round gets 1 point.
- Psychiatrist- you have all played this game I'm sure. It is fun with a large group.
- The Name Game- this is for long drives when you are trying to stay awake. One person names a band/singer and the next person has to name another band/singer using the last letter of the name or if there is more than one word in the title, the first letter of the second word. Only rule is you cannot use the name more than once. For example, person one says "Postal Service", the next person has the letter "s" and could say "Seal", the next person would have the word "L" and so on. It is fun as most everyone loves music and it passes time quickly.
- I also like to play a few free online games like Tetris, Super text twist and Mah Jong when I am feeding Jacob and have only one hand free.

I'm a huge gamer too! We like Mafia, Nertz, Phase 10, Hearts, Scum, Cranium, Spoons, etc. Game nights are my fav!!
I love games but I always get them confused and can never remember the names...
I do love good old spoons though.
Also the snort game...anyone remember that one?
When did your parents move to Colorado? What part? My parents lived in Fort Collins for a few years.
Boggle all the way! It is awesome, you'll like it if you like Scrabble.
My favorites are Phase 10, and Apples to Apples, I also love to play Bejewled! I think that I will have to play the name game it sounds like fun!!
The speed scrabble sounds way more fun! We don't play games very often because my husband is WAY competitive and laughs his head off when he's beating me. It's better for or marriage this way. :-)
I don't know Nertz or the snort game?
My parents moved to CO in March. My dad sells time share at the resort in Steamboat Springs. They live in a tiny town called Hayden. My mom works for Skywest at the airport close by.
We are BIG TIME gamers, too. As for some of our favorite games, here goes: Apples to Apples, Liars Dice, SkipBo, Scattergories, Zilch, RummiKub, Disney Trivial Pursuit, Lord of the Rings Risk (although this has been known to cause marital strife if we don't know when to walk away and take a break), Mario Party 8 (I know this one is a video game, but it is on the Wii and for up to four players and it's one where you don't have to know anything about video gaming to be good),Balderdash, and Oh Heck (which is played with Rook cards). These are just the ones we usually play. We have a whole closet full. We are giving the kids (mostly Molly right now) Candyland and Chutes and Ladders for Christmas, to get them started on games, too.
Also, Janel, I just posted on my blog about our Sound Scavenger Hunt in answer to your question.
Oh, and one more thing. If you like scrabble, you can play online at www.scrabulous.com. I am hopelessly addicted. Its a great way to sit down for a few minutes and take a break from the kids and the house when I need it.
